WHAT YOU ARE NOT BUYING
PUBLIC ACCESS UNDER THE ADA
For ADA-covered public access, staff generally cannot demand an ID card, certification, training paperwork, a task demonstration, or details about the person's disability.
UNDERSTAND THE REAL PROCESS
For ordinary ADA public access, status does not come from purchasing a card. Understand eligibility, training and responsibilities first — then choose optional identification if it is useful.
Learn what qualifies under the ADA.
Work or tasks must relate directly to the disability.
DOJ says people with disabilities may train their own service dogs.

AIR TRAVEL — USE THE REAL FORM
Air travel is governed separately from ordinary ADA public access. If an airline requires the DOT Service Animal Air Transportation Form, submit it directly to the airline — not DOT. Airlines may also require the DOT Relief Attestation Form for flights scheduled for 8 hours or more.
HOUSING IS DIFFERENT
HUD explains that an assistance animal for housing can include an animal that works, performs tasks, provides assistance, or provides disability-related emotional support. Housing providers may have obligations to consider reasonable-accommodation requests under the Fair Housing Act.
